GENDER RESPONSIVE SKILL AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT LAUNCHED

THE MAIDEN EDITION QUANTERLY NEWS LETTER

The Gender Responsive Skill and Community Development Project (GRSCDP) on March 30th 2011 launched the maiden edition of its Newsletter named "THE GENDER WATCH" at a meeting held in the conference room of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). The Newsletter which is to be published every quarter of the year forms part of the projects Information, Education and Communication Strategy (IECS) framework soon to be rolled out.

Mr. Kumoh explained that the role of a communication strategy in a project life is important because it serves as a project control mechanism that formalizes and ensures smooth information flow.

According to him, a social project of this nature is expected to bring about changes in perceptions, as well as improve the socio-economic status of the poor segment in society particularly women. The GRSCDP is therefore to improve national and local development management as well as increase women’s access to financial and non-financial services for sustainable development that equally benefits men and women.

He noted that the project is designed to reflect comprehensive interventions to institutionalize gender mainstreaming at the central and decentralized government structures and empower women for sustainable socio-economic development.
The Director said there are a number of stakeholders involved in the execution of the project and therefore information flow between all parties is crucial for successful project implementation thus one of the strategies of the project to disseminate information as spelt out in the GRSCDP Communication Strategy Framework is through the production of quarterly newsletters to share project information.

He further stated that, apart from the newsletter, the project also has interventions such as radio and television programs, press releases, project documentaries and newspaper publications among others, put into the communication action plan to be rolled out in due course.   He assured the gathering that the African Development Bank and the Government of Ghana funded project is really on course in achieving the set targets.

He commended the Government of Ghana, the African Development Bank, the key stakeholders and the Gender Responsive Skill and Community Development Project  Management Unit for the strides in bringing the project this far.
