CHILDREN TO HAVE A MOCK AFRICAN UNION SUMMIT IN RECOGNITION OF THE DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD
Submitted by Sylvester on Sat, 06/14/2008 - 13:03.This year’s theme for the Day of the African Child is ‘Right to Participation: Let Children be Heard and Seen’. The theme was chosen by the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) because, of the four clusters of Child Rights, the least addressed in Africa is the participation rights.
As part of activities to mark this great event, the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs (MOWAC) will organise an AU Mock Summit. The Summit will be co-ordinated, directed and performed by children, with some representing the Member States of the AU. The programme, which is to be attended by about 300 participants (including children, government officials and civil society groups) will be addressed by the Honourable Minister of MOWAC, Hajia Alima Mahama.
The venue for the Mock Summit is the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT in Accra on Monday 16th June 2008.
